Mailon - small carabinier
Maillon maillon rapide or link - a metal ring similar to a carabiner. The maillon has a threaded lock. This makes it more durable but harder to use. They are more versatile than carabiners because their various shapes and lack of an opening lock allow them to be loaded in many directions. The lock has a tightening thread that allows it to be closed permanently with a key. Maillons are made of steel and are much cheaper than carabiners of similar strength made of aluminum.
