Steel maillon carabiner - Quick Link Oval 8 mm
Maillon, maillon rapide or link - a metal ring similar to a carabiner. The maillon has a threaded lock. This makes it more durable, but harder to use. They are more versatile than carabiners, because their various shapes and lack of an opening lock allow them to be loaded in many directions. The lock has a tightening thread that allows it to be closed permanently with a key. Maillons are made of steel and are much cheaper than carabiners of similar strength made of aluminum.
Maillon oval - Quick Link Oval 8 mm is a connecting element, the so-called connector made of galvanized steel. Screwing and unscrewing its lock requires the use of a flat spanner. This type of lock ensures maximum security - it is impossible to open the lock without the intentional use of the key.
Maillon is EN 362 (industrial) and EN 12275 (sport) certified.
More information:
Maillon - oval-shaped steel carabiner is made of a special rod, galvanically protected against corrosion. The lock is closed and opened with a flat key No. 14. Despite its small size, the maillon is very durable. Maillon in the main axis has a strength of 40 kN and 10 kN in the transverse plane (it is not allowed to use an unscrewed connector). The clearance of the unscrewed maillon is 9 mm.
Maillons, i.e. a Q-type carabiner (according to EN 362) are most often used in slings that do not require constant unscrewing / removal. So if you plan to rig an aerial silks, hammock or rope permanently to a given point, you can use a maillon and be sure that the element will not unscrew itself. Maillon is also used to reduce friction in "thieves" positions as well as during emergency descents on climbing walls during "retreats".
